Through resourceful practices we can prolong the life of our clothing. Through techniques such as patching, darning, applique, or sashiko we can prevent the unnecessary disposal of clothes from our closets. Oddthenticity aims to help the practice of up-cycling become more mainstream in the fashion world. From high fashion to thrifted clothing, up-cycling will benefit the environment and is a valuable practice to implement into your daily life.
At Oddthenticity, I aim to be as transparent as possible about my product production, profits, and impact on the world. Through transparency, trust can be built. When companies are transparent about their product and practices, customers can decide if a brand aligns with their own morals and personal values. I hope to help build a world that allows consumers to know the origin and construction of clothing pieces before they purchase.
Currently there isn’t a global law requiring fashion brands to be fully transparent about their supply chain traceability. To get brands to be more transparent it is up to the public to apply pressure on brands to disclose information on their operations and products.
If you’re wondering how ethical or sustainable a fashion brand is you can check the “Fashion Revolutions Fashion Transparency Index”. This index grades different brands on their transparency of ethical and sustainable information regarding their products and operations.
You can also download the app “Good On You”. Which is an app that grades brands on their impact on the earth and people.
